Summary of a public lecture by Zooko Wilcox, founder and CEO of ZCash

Zooko Wilcox, the Founder and CEO of ZCash was in Bangalore in March and presented a talk on “Blockchain, encryption and privacy”. Zooko’s talk comes at an important time where the intersection of human rights, politics and technology is more troubling than ever. Zcash, one of the popular cryptocurrencies is focused to provide the best experience to users, without compromising on their security and privacy. The event was kickstarted by two flash talks from members of the community, Opinderpreet Singh, talking about Zksnarks and the future of crime reporting using Ztips and Tanvi Ratna, a consultant working with the Karnataka Government on blockchain applications. Interestingly, the Karnataka Government is one of the few state Governments in India open to piloting applications of blockchain technology for services. Opinderpreet highlighted how a privacy focused platform like Ztips, which use Zero Knowledge Cryptography to make crime tracking and reporting easier and safe.

The discussions were interactive and the depth of the queries was appreciated. The audience had all their queries answered on how the underlying architecture of Zcash worked, the applications of this unique solution and the future roadmap.
